Gdańsk Airport to Hel — complete guide

Hel is at the tip of the 35 km Hel Peninsula, 80 km from GDN Airport. Summer traffic on the peninsula can double journey times. Here's how to plan your arrival.

Pre-booked taxi1h 15min – 1h 45min (summer)~350 PLN

Summer congestion warning

From mid-June to late August, the single road to Hel (route 216) becomes heavily congested on weekends. Journey times double between 10:00 and 18:00 on Saturdays and Sundays. If arriving in peak summer, book your airport transfer as early morning (before 09:00) or evening (after 19:00). Alternatively, take a seasonal Żegluga Gdańska ferry from Gdańsk Old Town — this bypasses peninsula traffic entirely.

What to do in Hel

  • Hel Marine Station — see Baltic grey seals in rehabilitation
  • Wide sandy beaches on both the Bay and open-sea sides
  • Fried fish at the old fishing harbour
  • Bicycle rental — the whole peninsula is flat and scenic
  • Nuclear bunker "Torpedownia" — WWII military heritage

Return transfers

We also handle returns from Hel to GDN Airport at the same fixed price. If you're catching an evening flight, book the return with at least 3 hours buffer in summer to account for traffic heading off the peninsula.
