Let's start with the case against us. Travelling alone in the daytime, city centre to city centre? Take the Pendolino and don't look back — not even at our transfers. The express (EIP) covers Gdańsk–Warsaw in 2:25–2:50, which no road option can touch, and departures leave Gdańsk Główny roughly every hour. Tickets are dynamically priced at 46–235 PLN per person — the earlier you book and the quieter the hour, the cheaper the seat. The slower IC and TLK trains take 3:15–4:15 from around 46 PLN, a fair deal for patient budget travellers, and Flixbus needs 4.5–6 hours but is often the cheapest of all.
One catch is easy to forget: the train does not leave from the airport. From Gdańsk Airport (GDN) you first need the SKM/PKM commuter rail or a taxi to the main station, and the problem repeats in Warsaw between Warszawa Centralna and your hotel. On paper the Pendolino takes two and a half hours; door to door, with both connections, it is realistically much closer to four.
When a private transfer wins
At night there is no contest: after around 21:00 the rail connections practically disappear until morning. If your flight lands at GDN late, the real choice is a hotel night plus a morning train — or a car waiting at arrivals that has you in Warsaw before sunrise. The night fare is 2300 PLN for the whole car, and the driver tracks your flight, so a delay costs nothing.
With three or four people and luggage, do the honest arithmetic. The day transfer splits to 450 PLN per person. Against that stand four separate Pendolino tickets — bought last minute, each climbs towards 235 PLN — plus a taxi to the station in Gdańsk and another across Warsaw, with suitcases dragged through two stations in between.
